The
08th Annual Gampaha District Simming Meet organized
by regent International College was held on 16th and
17th July 2011 at the regent College Swimming Pool.
As in
previous years, the meet was conducted in accordance with the
rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU)
and the meet was sanctioned and officiated by SLASU officials.
The meet was financed by Regent International College together
with co-sponsors Makeen Books, Metropoliton Agencies, Central
Finance, Sri Lanka Insurance, Peoples Bank, Nations Trust Bank,
Ceylon Cold Stores.
Around 600
swimmers from 40 schools in Gampaha District took part in the
events of the all age groups and Tashia Dias of Gateway College-Negombo
was adjudged the Best Swimmer-2011 at this meet. Gateway
College- Negombo won the overall girls championship while Regent
International College girls won the Runners Up trophy.
The Overall
Boys Championship was won by Regent International College and
Yoshida Shokanji International College- Sapugaskanda won the
Boys’ Runner Up trophy.
The coveted
Regent International College Challenging Trophy” for overall
winner was won with 294 points by Regent International College
while Gateway College-Negombo won the Runner Up Trophy with 189
points.
The swimming
sensation Mr. Mathew Abeysinghe, the National Record holder in
200m, 400m and 1500m free style events graced occasion as the
Chief Guest and in his speech to the swimmers of Gampaha
schools, he stressed the importance of balancing sports with
academic activities in order to become a successful person.
Trophies and
certificates were awarded by the Chief Guest at a colourful
closing ceremony. |
